This little guy works quite well December 21, 2008 David G. Sommers (LA, CA USA) This little notebook, or netbook, works quite well. It's stable, and it's fast enough for many common uses of a personal computer - and it's little. Though it is little, the screen is very sharp and clear. I'm kind of old and my eyes are not great. That's not a problem. Luckily, I'm not a touch typist, The keyboard on these things is a bit smaller than normal and could be a problem for some people. It's fine for me. I've been using it for web surfing, some e-mail and working on some documents. It does this just fine. I did not appreciate the trial version of Microsoft Office. I removed it and installed Open Office 3.0. I also installed the free version of the AVG virus tool. Both work as expected. Very nice. I also did not appreciate the old fashioned idea of multiple partitions and drive letters. The hidden recovery partition is fine, but why in the 21st Century do I need a D: drive along with a C:? That's from Windows 98 days. I used Partition Magic to remove D: and expand C: into the now free space. Much better. I also use it with ubuntu on an external USB drive. I did this without altering the XP installation so I can run this Linux when I want to. With a little tweaking, ubuntu works very well. I get about two hours of use with the 3-cell battery - not bad. I also bought a Hong Kong 6-cell battery that gives me over four hours of use. Be aware that the original 3-cell mounts flush to the body and is very light weight. The 6-cell has a bulge that raises the up the back some and is noticeably heavier.
Nice little netbook... November 25, 2008 K. Miller 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Wife just got an Acer Aspire One netbook, I liked the idea of less mass to pack around when traveling so I ordered the MSI Wind. It's a little bigger than the AAO (good for my larger fingers and poorer eyesight) and a little lighter. Was an Amazon proper purchase, quick and painless. Please note: This model does not have Bluetooth installed. (as noted in description) The drivers/software are installed for it, but it has no BT module built-in. Not a problem for me, but most Wind's do have BT and it was a little confusing to determine this was the case. Good price for a handy travel computer.
Awesome, Well worth! November 15, 2008 Denis Odokonyero (Gulu, Uganda) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Awesome product for the price. 10' LED screen size just perfect, huge keyboard and complete display. Starts up and shuts down superfast. Two bad points though: 3-cell battery life is really short, maybe an hr or two at most, and the computer tends to be kinda heavier at the back making it easily (or at least seems to) tip over when on lap. Otherwise, thumbs-up (McCain style) for this computer...better than the competition by far!
