pretty good laptop August 10, 2008 Matthew Corcoran 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Bought at bestbuy for $900, same features minus 320 gig harddrive. Had a compaq for over 2 years. I took it to over 20 countries, never a problem (till it was stolen). This laptop is much faster and smoother. I bought it with 4 gig memory, 2.1 AMD puma platform with ATI integrated graphics. Overall, I'm very happy with it. I like all the extra ports (HDMI, eSATA, card reader ect) and supplied remote. The ATI integrated graphics card is far superior anything else available for a laptop. Don't waste money on a dedicated graphics card. The design is sharp and the keyboard works well. My major complaints: the battery life is poor to average at best. Even with all power management settings reduced, the battery only lasts for about 1 hour 20 minutes. Also, the touch sensitive controls for volume stick and make annoying clicking noises during music and DVD playback. I have to restart the computer to make it stop, very annoying. The speakers don't have any punch, compared to my old compaq and sound from DVD playback is barely audible. I have tried all DVD software and alas, the same problem. Perhaps it is a driver problem, not sure. Because of the small glitches and problems with customer service from HP, the overall rating is 4 stars. That said, the computer is a good performer and should give you few problems.
