1 out of 5 stars NEVER EVER A HP PRINTER!   December 26, 2008
ENRICOMORALI (KANSAS CITY, KS USA)
IN THE BEGINNING I WAS THRILLED ABOUT THE WIRELESS TECHNOLOGY THAT FEATURES FOR THE PRINTING...
THE PRICE IT SEEMED FAIR ENOUGH (200USD) FOR THE WHOLE UNIT THAT BIG "WHAT A DEAL" I THOUGHT!

IF YOU EVER THINK TO GET A HP... DON'T!!! HERE IS WHY...

THE SOFTWARE IS NOT EASY TO HANDLE LIKE SOME OTHER BRANDS.
4 BUNDLES SOFTWARE FOR A PICTURE... WHAT A HASSLE!
THE WELCOME OR INITIALIZING WINDOW SHOWS YOU AN ANNOYING PIC OF A LITTLE SOMEBODY FEM THAT I DON'T EVEN KNOW! (A PLAIN HP LOGO COULD BE SUFFICE).

SLOW, SLOW PRINTING AND IMAGE PROCESSING!

BAD, APART IS THAT YOU CAN NOT CLOSE THE UNIT, (THE PAPER TRAY AT LEAST SO THE DUST DON'T COME IN). NO THEY DIDN'T THINK ABOUT!
(AND NO WAY TO CLOSE IT OR MAKE IT SMALLER IN SOME WAY WHEN NOT IN USE) AND WHOLE SET OF FUNCTIONS.

THE WORST PART IS THE CARTRIDGE PROBLEM, IF ONE OF YOUR CARTRIDGES ARE OVER, THEN YOU ARE JUST SCREWED UP, TILL YOU REPLACE THEM YOU CAN START ALL OVER! THE MACHINE STOPS ALL PRINTING!!!

AND A VERY ANNOYING REMINDER ON THE PC SCREEN AND ON THE LCD DISPLAY IT'S THERE ALL THE TIME FOR THE SAME PURPOSE, ANNOYING THAT THE INK IS FINISHED!
MOST ALL THE TIMES I USED THE BLACK AND WHITE PRINTING (I KNEW HOW EXPENSIVE THE CARTRIDGES ARE AND I AVOID TO USE THEM AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE)
AND THE MAGENTA COLOR WAS THE FIRST TO RUN OUT, THEN THE YELLOW DESPITE I USE ONLY THEN FOR SCANNING, NO MORE PRINTING BUT THE INK STILL WAS GOING OUT FROM THE CARTRIDGE!
AH, AND THE EXPENSIVE INK IT'S SPOILED BY THE SLIGHTEST MARK OF MOISTURE!

I USED TO HAVE A EPSON SERIES STYLUS 300 (FROM 1998) JUST FINE AND SMALL UNIT, FASTER THAN HP 7100 SERIES ONLY PRINTER BUT EVEN ONE OF THE COLORS OF THE INK WAS OVER STILL PRINTING AS LONG AS THERE WAS INK AVAILABLE. (WHEN I HAD NOT THE AVAILABLE NEW CARTRIDGES, THE UNIT JUST WILL GO ON NICELY WITH THE GENERIC REFILL).
BUT BECAUSE I DIDN'T USE FOR LONG TIME THE PRINTING HEAD WENT BAD AND I COULD USE IT NO MORE!.

SERIOUSLY DON'T TRY HP YOU'LL REGRET IT, I'M LOOKING FOR ANOTHER BRAND THAT AT LEAST ALLOW ME TO PRINT WITHOUT TO BE WORRY ABOUT THE EMPTY INK DEPOSIT, AND WITH GOOD INK QUALITY THAT DOESN'T FADES AWAY WITH A DROP OF WATER.

NEVER AGAIN HP FOR PRINTING ANYTHING NEEDED!

1 out of 5 stars Quirky and Frustrating   December 14, 2008
E. Adams (Mercer Island, WA United States)
One problem after another.... mostly due to the Wi-Fi connection. We frequently have to go through the Add a Printer wizard via Control Panel to get the printer to function. The scanner has not opertated from day 1. We use Dell Inspiron 1520 laptops running Window Vista. I would not recommend purchasing the computer, the HP product, or the operating system. None are ready for prime time.

2 out of 5 stars Printer has it's good points Utill HP Updates Damaged it   December 5, 2008

I just thought that I should provide a warning to anyone who buys this "wonderful" printer, you should ask HP to provide a Tech with the printer. My 7180 was working fine until about march of this year when the HP Updates/Viruses started to werak havoc with the printer. Currently to print more than one page I have to stop every few pages to pick out the error codes, wich match the time and date of the most recent driver update that the printer put on a random page rather than printing the image that it is supposed to, or it pints the top 10 % of the page and stops. Of course if you are feeding in letterheads and hit the cancel button, be shure to either wait 30 seconds before placing in another as it will create it's own internal print job of junk data and waste a sheet of paper.

2 out of 5 stars Ink Hog!!!   November 1, 2008

This printer works reasonably well. However, the constant need to replenish these tiny ink cartridges is leading me to seriously consider dumping the printer, about a year after I bought it. I can't give you an exact metric like so many ounces per print or whatever, but, take my word for it, you will be replacing cartridges on this thing every couple of weeks if you do any small amount of printing at all. It is incredibly frustrating.

2 out of 5 stars I wasted my money   September 6, 2008

I waited and waited for this unit's price to drop so I could make a case to myself that I should buy this unit to replace my Canon i960 Photo printer, EPSON 2580 Scanner, and old HP 4L Laser Jet that were clogging up my desk. I especially wanted this one to scan negatives and slides. Well, that feature is especially poor. Every slide contains diagonal lines through it (the same slide scans perfect on the EPSON) so I had to break out the EPSON again for slide scanning. Photo printing quality is no where near as good as my Canon so that is now back on my desk. The only thing I use this for now is standard printing and scanning and now I have a fax machine (which I have to manually scan each page), but in the end I have 3 units on my desk again which defeated the purpose of this purchase.
