A great printer until now December 26, 2008 Perry A. Moore (santa rosa, ca) I have had the HP B8350 for almost a year. It was great out of the box, prints great photos and 11x17 maps within 5 minutes. However, within the past week, this product has a serious problem noted by others. I go to print a photo, make some changes to the print quality and paper, press print, and the light simply blinks. If you check the print queue, it is empty! Now, if I make no changes to the quality it prints at the default economical setting, which for photos is poor, for text, it is fine. Like I said, this just started to happen! The tech support is fine but they are at a loss. I have removed all previous installations of the driver and reinstalled, same thing happens. The driver has not changed since ver 7.0.2, date June 2006, and if this is caused by missing dll files or firmware kaput, the techs in India have not got the info from HP yet, even though I keep asking them. So, right now, this great printer may be made worthless unless there is a solution. The solution is to remove any IE 7.0 or 8.0 web browser. If you have XP SP1 or SP 2, download MS XPS Essential Package ver. 1.0 or better and MS SP3 for XP. Download Net Framework 3.0 before downloading XPS. The problem is not HP driver, as I thought, it is XPS that when loaded updates the Unidrv.dll and Unidrvui.dll files causing the printer to only print in a default (non-adjustable) mode.
HP Photosmart Pro B8350 Rocks! December 2, 2008 R. McFarland (Seattle, WA USA) I just bought the HP Photosmart Pro B8350 printer because it was about the only medium format (13"x 19") printer that takes advantage of HP's gray inkjet cartridges - all for a reasonable price. I had no trouble setting it up and printing out a nice test sheet. I was amazed at the results! It looked like fine-grain photo paper - even under a loop - and produced a nice neutral color. I highly recommend this printer. I did a lot of research to come to this decision, and I hope you can benefit from my efforts. Enjoy!
Good print quality but... November 30, 2008 Alan Richrod (Aberdeen, WA USA) This is a good printer and prints very well and on large formats, well ok, medium formats 13 x 19. Others have mentioned some problems with it and I can verify most of them. Some large print files take a long time to load. It seems to print fast once loaded. And the prints are really good quiality prints, especially on good photo paper. The cartridges are not as expensive as some HP printers but they're pretty small and a "brass-bound [...]" to replace! If you are good at Chinese puzzles or escaping handcuffs, you should be fine. There is a stiff plastic flap in front of the cartridge bay that makes removal and installation quite a challenge. It seems to be the only purpose of that piece of plastic. Back in the day we used to call it "bad design". I have experienced lots of paper pickup and jamming problems and though easy to fix they are annoying. And it's true; HP does not actually support their products at all, they only claim to. You sort of wonder around the web and hope to find what you want. So this is a good printer but very far from perfect.
Very Tempermental. Does not print all documents. October 23, 2008 W. Ramsey (Junction City, KS United States) Inability to print most documents. It will print most text documents, but the moment that I try to send a picture or anything of any file size, it blinks at me for a while and then just goes back to normal. Never spits out my job. I have spent countless hours on the phone with HP over in some other country that does not speak English too well. I have reinstalled the drivers I don't know how many times. Everytime I would call back, a different person would make me reinstall the drivers. Then one of their guys told me that it was a problem with MS Excel. That was the last straw. I knew it was hopeless to go any farther. So I have learned my lesson. Please Beware! Until better drivers are released, this printer is not suitable for what it is built to do.
Proud Owner!!!! July 15, 2008 Charlie B (Orange County, Ca USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Well, i was in the market for a large format printer, just like most of you. I actually found a Brother printer for $[...] here on Amazon and wanted to see if my buddy at Bestbuy can get a deal on it. Unfortunately, Bestbuy did not carry it. He did, however recommend this from HP. HP was my first choice of printers, but the ones i have found was not in my price range..until now. I ordered one because of the awesome price and was excited. Then i started reading all the horror stories about the drivers and it not working and dealing with non English speaking tech guys. Well, obviously i read all reviews bad and good and learned to download directly from the HP site so i did. I plugged the power in, plugged the USB cord in, installed the VISTA 64 drivers(yes, im running Vista 64)and BAM! Everything worked!!!! I started with a test page off of notepad and 8.5x11 and printed perfectly. I then opened up Photoshop Cs2 and printed up an 11x17 poster of my artwork in FULL COLOR with the supplied photo paper. Let me just say...It is the best inkjet printer i have ever owned. And i have owned quite a few. So, with all the horror stories in the past, it looks like HP fixed all issues..even if you are running Vista 64! What a deal and what a great product! Thanx HP! Charlie B cfxpaintworks.com
